I feel I have been missing out on all the fun for the past while since I was not using a good version control method.
I have recently discovered the power of Git, and I've instantly loved it.
It can get frustrating but the benefits of using the service are great! Especially when working on projects with other people. Some things are more efficient as a command line and some as a graphical interface, just as you wouldn't do image editing in command line (I wonder if anyone has tried) I don't think git should be done in command line either. I believe a good user interface is mandatory for using this service. I have tried many clients but so far I am stuck with the Github client and SourceTree. I especially like source tree for its nice interface showing all the branches and how they interact.
If you are using Git, it seems you are stuck with one of the few options out there, Github, for open source projects(unless you want to pay for private repo's) or Bitbucket which you have to pay to collaborate. I was not happy with either option.
I decided to host my own Git server. At most there will be about 5 people working on the same project so I figured any computer can handle that. Since my RaspberryPi was already set up, I decided to use it. The installation was pretty straight forward and all the roadblocks were overcome with a few Google searches.
This way all my projects are private and I don't need to pay anybody for their service. Now the only thing left to do is convince my programer friends that Git will save them time in the long run, Google searches won't solve that one.
